Meet Deborah Bruinsma, Family Consultant

During my career, I have assisted thousands of individuals and families through family breakdowns. 

Determining a child’s best interest during a family dispute is a complex and involved process. As a private Family Consultant and Regulation 7 Family Consultant, I provide an independent perspective regarding your children's best interests.

My family assessment and report will assist you as parents to step back and focus on your children's needs, improve your co-parenting relationship and work towards a respectful resolution.

My assessment skills are well regarded in the Federal Circuit Court, the Family Court and child protection Courts in South Australia, New South Wales, the Northern Territory and Queensland. My assessments draw from a broad range of professional experiences in child protection, domestic violence, health and mental health, addictions, adoptions and working with families experiencing trauma in both the public and private sector.

During my career, I have assisted thousands of individuals and families through family breakdowns. With over 35 years of social work experience to draw from, I consistently demonstrate the capacity to provide thorough, timely, child-focused assessments for Court.

Professional Experience

I have a postgraduate degree in social work and I am a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers. 

I am an accredited mental health social worker, with a Medicare provider number  and an expert witness in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia. 

I have firsthand knowledge of the devastating impact of trauma and family violence on adults and children. I draw from my experience as a statutory social worker in child protection and many years as a domestic violence therapist working with both men and women. My extensive hands-on experience ensures that risk factors in Family Court matters are appropriately assessed.

I founded Deborah Bruinsma Consulting in 2012, and have offered a Family Consulting service across Australia since.  I was a Family Consultant employed in the Adelaide registry of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia and ran a successful private practice as a family therapist in the Adelaide Hills.
